Understanding the Dementia Care Workforce

The National Dementia Workforce Study, sponsored by the National Institute on Aging of the NIH, conducts the first large, annual surveys of the dementia care workforce in the United States. Researchers can use survey data and other linked data sources for free to answer critical questions about the workforce and its impact on care and outcomes for people living with dementia.

Masked Variables Documentation

Updated Wave 1 survey questionnaires now identify variables masked or removed in the Public Use Files (PUFs) to safeguard respondent privacy.

Wave 1 Data Available Now

Researchers can use NDWS surveys on their own or linked with other data sources, including beneficiary-level CMS data. All data are free.

Taking the Survey

If you were invited to complete a survey, you can make an impact on how we understand the dementia care workforce in less than 30 minutes.
